The secret of successful businesses not only lies in having smart people but also having right people in the right positions and the policy of retaining talent. That’s why leaders always spend a lot of time on allocating right people in the right team to achieve the highest efficiency at workplace.

1. Choose the right talent during interviewing process

A team of talented employees will bring success to the organization. And the interviewer holds in hand the mission of recruiting the most appropriate one. If you fail to choose the right people for the right positions, they can’t meet the job requirements the job is too boring for your competent level; sooner or later, they will quit the job.

There a lot of interview styles to select the talented candidates for the organization. Behavioral questions also work very well in assessing candidates’ problem solving skill. For example, you can pose this kind of question to candidates applying for a marketing position. “Suppose our company is a moon-cake maker, how do you conduct a marketing campaign to win over other big competitors?” By that way, you’re challenging their problem-solving skills. It’s certain they don’t expect such a question because your company doesn’t make moon-cake. Then, give the candidate some minutes to write down the plan and present it.

2. Observe at the workplace

You should find suitable chances to ask your employees if they are interested in what they’re doing and whether the current job can maximize their competence. And then, you can prevent the brain-drain disease which may occur in your company. In case that your employees can’t meet the job requirements, just organize suitable training courses for these people. But if your staffs perform previous tasks so well, don’t hesitate to empower them or delegate more challenging tasks.

More than that, “role rotation” is a useful method to create job satisfaction and job variation in the organization. The greatest benefit of “role rotation” is to improve employees’ knowledge, unleash hidden talent, and expose them to new challenges to fully develop their career.

3. Give clear and helpful instructions

Whenever giving task assignments, you should take some little time to explain clearly why your employees should do them, why these tasks are important to the organization’s goals. This makes your employees more committed to their responsibilities.

You should actively listen to your employees to understand all difficulties in their work as well. By this way you can help them work out the best solution for each problem.

4. Appreciate and reward excellent employees

You need to take actions showing that your employees’ contribution is highly appreciated. Thus, when one of your employees successfully handles a complicated situation, send an email to express your high valuation and thankfulness for his/her good performance. Don’t forget to copy (cc) this email to all members in the department.

More than that, your organization should develop a policy which rewards for excellent results. Besides the material value, awards are inspiring your employees, manifesting their pride and encouraging them to perform better.
